A brahmin student in the 8th class, Hari Prasad, second from right, invited 2 Peace Corps teachers to his house. His 3 brothers and an uncle were seated with him. His father, standing, held the offering.

Date: 1966-03 Location: Palpa Description: Tea shop and women carrying firewood. Trails have been the main avenues of commerce in Nepal. Tea shops (buttis) along the way offer tea, food and rest. Restrictions on cutting wood limited where it could be found. Often villagers had to travel long distances to find and carry needed wood home.

Date: 1966-11 Location: Shantipur, Gulmi Description: Villagers from miles around gather at a site for Purnima. The celebration begins just after dark. A costumed dancer enters the center of dozens of participants. He wears brightly colored robes and a fierce mask and dances to exhaustion. A new dancer takes his place and the celebration goes on until sunrise the next morning.
