Caption: Date: 1970-1971 Location: Phalate, Dhankuta Description: Home of Chip Zimmer, Peace Corps volunteer working in mountain agriculture, assigned to Phalate Panchayat. He is seated to the right, next to Bob Tomory another Peace Corps volunteer, who also worked in mountain agriculture in Dhankuta District. The two story house has wooden shutters on the windows, with a low ceiling on the bottom floor. The roof was just thatched and the leftover is on the rafter to the left. The landlord's name was Thula Ram Lungeli Thapa Magar; the other houses in the area below were all relatives of his. Phalate ran from the Arun River at about 1500 feet up to the hilltop near Pakhribas photo, at about 5500 foot elevation. Makalu is the tall mountain, back.
