Caption: Date: 1970-1971 Location: Phalate, Dhankuta Description: Landscape view, Phalate Panchayat. Fields and farm houses on hillside front. The three Magar houses (the one in the foreground may have a thatch bundle on its roof) were relatives of Thula Ram Lungeli Thapa Magar, who owned the house that the Peace Corps Volunteer, assigned to Phalate Panchayat, lived in. The picture was taken from this house and Thula Ram's house is to the right, just outside the picture and down the hill. Trail in the back just over the edge of the ridge is the Arun River valley. Phalate ran from the Arun River at about 1500 feet up to the hilltop near Pakhribas, at about 5500 foot elevation. Makalu is the tall mountain in the center, back. To its left is the ridge that hides Mt. Everest. Keywords: Bob Nichols, Nepal Photo History Project, Peace Corp Photo History, People, countryside, landscape, named person
