Caption: Date: 1969-05 Nepalganj, Banke Description: Horse-drawn tonga loaded down with steel parts for the Chamghat River suspension bridge in Rawutkot, Dailekh, on its way from Nepalganj town to the airport. The steel parts, which had been custom-made in a foundry in Kanpur, India, had just cleared customs the previous day and were to be flown the 30 miles over the foothills to Surkhet. From there they were to be carried by village porters the two days north to the bridge site (along with 50 bags of cement and other assorted steel parts, such as the tower footings, cable clamps, and ½” iron rods to support the deck).
