Caption: Date: 1966-1967 Location: Biruwa Guthi, Parsa Description: Stripping the hide from a dead cow. Once a cow dies, its body is devoured by vultures, village dogs, jackals and other birds. On many occasions, as in this picture, low or out caste villagers remove the skin. In 24 hours, nothing of the animal is left but bones. About twice a year, bullock carts come through the villages to pick up the bones and take them to India where they are used for fertilizer. Picture is taken toward the north, with the Biruwa Guthi panchayat house in the back; threshing area with tractor, left rear.
