The shelter is just off the Khumbu Glacier; firewood, left, front, was carried up to base camp by the porter and his son. At the time this picture was taken (late April), base camp was empty. Peace Corps Volunteer Bill Borsa, right. It was very cold. The porter and his son, who had the same clothing on as they had when they left Lukla, said nothing about the cold.
