Caption: Date: 1965 Location: Dhorpatan, Baglung Description: Cheese factory being built at 17,000 feet on a ridge four hours climb above Dhorpatan so as to accommodate yak headers having animals in the two adjacent valleys. Building was being donwe by Peace Corps volunteer Dave Carlson, five Nepali stonemasons, and five Tibetan lumbermen for the Swiss Association for Technical Assistance. It was to be part of a network of such facilities that the Swiss Association for Technical Assistance were constructing throughout Nepal in an effort to assist yak and dairy farmers create a product that would not spoil for lack of refrigeration.
