Caption: Date: 1964-10 Location: Chaurikharka, Solukhumbu Description: Sherpas spent several days walking, running, dancing, and singing their way back and forth across the plowed ground of what was planned to be the Lukla airfield to make it firm enough for a plane to land on. This technique was successful. The Sherpas were employed in the most enjoyable jobs they had ever had.
