Caption: Date: 1974 Location: Khumjung, Solukhumbu Description: Small piles of animal and human waste from houses and barnyards. Towards the end of winter Sherpanis load dhoku baskets with the waste, then carry them to the potato fields where they are dumped. After the snow melts, the fields are plowed and the waste is mixed in with the soil, greatly increasing fertility for that year's crops.
