Caption: Date: 1991 Location: Kathmandu, Kathmandu Description: Rewanta Kumari Acharya reads from the Ramayana to Tanka Prasad Acharya, whose eyesight prevents him from reading quickly. Tanka Prasad founded the first democratic political party (Praja Parishad) in 1938. After printing and distributing anti-Rana pamphlets, he was caught and imprisoned for life; unlike four of his colleagues, he could not be executed because executing a Brahmin was too great a sin for the Ranas to bear.
