Caption: Date 1969 Location: Sahartara, Dolpa Description: Partial view of Sahartara village. The flat roof houses are built above and below each other, the different levels connected by notched log ladders. The topmost structure is partly the house of a Lama family, partly a temple (note the large banner) maintained by the family. The other houses have prayer flags, erected annually. Note the silage stored on the roof. The girl at the bottom of the photo has just made a snowball, which she will throw at a friend on a neighboring roof.
