He had earlier studied park management in New Zealand. Later he headed the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) office in Thimphu, Bhutan. He died in a 2006 helicopter crash in east Nepal along with other distinguished Nepalese development spcialists and scholars, such as Harka Gurung.
