Date: 1965-04 Location: Thyangboche, Solukhumbu Description: Sherpa couple Nga Dorje and Daj Ang Bu prepare a human hair to use as thread to sew a tear in their clothing. The hair they are using for thread she had simply pulled out of her head a moment before. Their home was near Thyangboche Monastery. Nga Dorje was held in some awe in the region since she had periods of what we would call "psychotic breaks" but which were considered a special gift among the Sherpas. When Peace Corps volunteer Larry Daloz was staying atheir home, Nga Dorje had a brief such episode while. Her husband was reassuring that this was common and there was no reason to fear for her. She would, he said, become a "lhawa" or revered holy woman someday.
