Date: 1964-06 Location: Bhojpur, Bhojpur Description: Family transplanting rice as the monsoon rains began to arrive. Water would flood the paddies below the village. Here, "Buddho" is breaking up the clods and preparing the soil for his two daughters, Kaili and Saili, and his sister, Jethi, to plant with rice starts that they have just pulled from another paddy where they were grown from seed. These were times of hard work but great delight. The younger ones loved to get coated with mud and "accidentally" splash one another, returning home at the end of the day totally coated. There was generally a fair amount of raksi flowing during the day to keep people moving, so that didn't hurt either.
