Date: 1965-04 Location: Thyangboche, Solukhumbu Description: This is a classic view of the Thyangboche Monastery before the fire that destroyed so much of the original architecture. Peace Corps volunteer Larry Daloz spent a week or so there at the newly-constructed "guest house" for moutain climbers. Only fourteen people had signed the guest book at that point. He reported "It was quite lovely being there, chatting with the monks, whose Nepali was worse than mine, learning a little Sherpa, and meeting the head Lama. One morning I was invited for tsampa and smoky butter tea with one of the monks. It was magical. Another day I visited with an old Sherpa nun who had, the year before, given Dave Towle (Nepal 1) a ski pole for trekking. Dave gave it to me when he left Bhojpur, and I returned it to her. She was spectacular." Ama Dablam in the background.
