Description: Construction of a village school. This was typical construction technique: simply flat rocks heavily surrounded by clay dug from a hole behind the site. Projects like this were ostensibly carried out by free labor ("sramdhan") but the workers were generally poor people, often women and children, who were assigned to the work by the wealthier and more powerful men in the village as a way of working off their debts.
