Caption: Date: 1966-11 Location: Dhankuta, Dhankuta Description: Brass and copper "gagris" (water jugs) lined up at the one water pipe that serviced 30 to 40 households. Water was turned on twice a day. It was women's work to fill and carry the jugs back to their homes. In a few households boys - mercilessly teased - had to do the work. The water would run for an hour or so and provided enough time to fill the jugs and for a few women to take modest showers or wash a few clothes. No houses had running water inside in 1966 - 68.
