The town originally settle by Newars who had fallen out of favor with the Ranas in Kathmandu and were "exiled" to the hills. It was a fairly prosperous hill town. It was a long days walk from Dharan. There were no wheeled vehicles in town, no electricity, drinking water was gathered from 6 or 8 taps which ran for an hour or two in the morning and the same in the evening. A very pleasant climate and at an elevation above 4000 feet free of malaria. Keywords: Nepal Photo History Project, Peace Corp Photo History, Peter Von Mertens, aerial view, landscape, village
