Location: Dingboche, Solukhumbu
Description: Dingboche was only used as a summer residence in 1967. Animals were grazed on some of the hillsides but grass was sparse. Barley was grown in the fields around the scattering of houses. Behind in the middle of the photo is Island Peak at over 20,000 feet a "trekking" peak available for trekkers to climb for a reasonable fee and slightly out of the photo on the left is Lhotse.
