Caption: Date: 1967
Location: Dhankuta, Dhankuta
Description: Policeman standing guard outside of Dhankuta Police Station. Adjacent was the district prison housing about 30 men. Peace Corps Volunteers Brian Cooke and Peter von Mertens were allowed inside to vaccinate prisoners against smallpox. It was a well organized building around a central courtyard where inmates prepared their own meals. Inmates slept under sloping roofs but essentially out of doors.
