Date: 1967-01-14 Location: Devghat, Tanahu Description: A fully loaded dugout canoe about to be poled across the river carrying people in a mix of traditional and modern dress during the Maghe Sankranti festival at the Devghat Mela, at the confluence where the Kali Gandaki and Seti Gandaki join to form the Narayani River. Amid a crowd numbering perhaps in the thousands, this dugout and one larger ferry were virtually the only means of transport across the river. Note one frustrated Nepali man in modern business suit and tie, probably from Kathmandu, up to his knees in the water trying to secure passage.
