Jamuna was trained in homeopathic medicine in Nepal, but emigrated to the US to join her sister Bishnu and Bishnu's husband Krishna: Krishna ("Krishna Bhai") was a schoolteacher at Chitwan High School who later taught Nepali to many Peace Corps volunteers, then received support for graduate study in linguistics at Oxford and the University of Wisconsin - Madison where he taught Nepali for many years until his retirement. Jamuna and her sister Bishnu founded the Himalchuli Restaurant, one of the most longstanding and widely loved Nepali restaurants in the U.S., in Madison.
