Several things are evident from this photo, one is how new the village is with loose thatching material, unmudded walls etc. and it's proximity to the jungle; the second thing is the warmth Tharu men have for their children,you can see the fellow in the middle carrying a small kid. In Peace Corps volunteer Steve Mott's two years there he never saw a child being spanked.
