Caption: Date: 1971-09 Location: Chainpur, Bajhang Description: The Khaptad Swami and Headmaster Ram Datt Awasti at Satyavadi High School. The Swami, an energetic walker well into his 80s (he is reported to have lived to 130) , came down from Khaptad to visit his old friend Ram Datt at the school once every year or so. The Swami was said to have received his medical education in India during the Raj years, prior to his forsaking normal life to become an ascetic. In his later years, Swami-ji would leave Khaptad Lekh in the winter, walking south to the Indian border where he would catch a train to an ashram in the south of India. His pet crow would accompany him on the journey to the rail station, and would be there waiting for Swami-ji when he returned months later.
