Caption: Date: 1972 Location: Hile, Dhankuta Description: Traders and dzos (hybrid yaks) on Hile’s main street. They traveled through Hile in January and returned from the Terai carrying salt to the north. Picture taken toward the northeast, just as one enters the village from the trail leading up from Dhankuta. Hile’s Buddhist temple in the rear. The Chinese had closed the Tibet border and salt was no longer available from Tibet, so pack animals carried salt in the opposite direction of the earlier history.
